Village of Amanda
Village of Amanda
116 E. Main Street, Amanda Ohio 43102
Nestled between Lancaster and Circleville, the Village of Amanda is a charming community of around 800 residents, where history and countryside meet. Known for its rich farmland and friendly atmosphere, Amanda is home to roughly 320 homes and businesses and is proudly served by two schools that welcome students from the village and nearby communities.
Perched on a gentle shelf once shaped by the waters of a prehistoric lake, Amanda looks out over the fertile "Clearcreek" bottomlands, with their spring-fed streams and abundant trees—a landscape that first drew settlers in search of rich farmland.
In 1800, William Hamilton became one of the first pioneers in the area and helped survey the township. The land was later dedicated by Samuel Kessler, and the town itself carefully laid out by his hand and early planners. Hamilton named the settlement Amanda, though why remains a delightful mystery. The Village was officially founded in 1819 and incorporated in 1903; The Village of Amanda has grown while keeping the warmth and charm of its early days—a place where community, history, and the beauty of the land come together.
